Q1: Do you not mind playing a not-nice guy?
SC: When I came to do film, Michael said I would play myself and these two other characters. I was intrigued by that and then I saw the script and I was nervous about it. Some of the film was improvised and some of it was scripted. Some of the lines for me to say as myself made me look stupid. For example, when I refer to the (?) book, I say, 'Can you believe a book this big doesn't have an index?' I know that novels don't have indexs and I don't mind doing this if it's funny. My main concern was I didn't want it to be self-indulgent. It was important for me that the film works for someone who doesn't know who I am, and there are quite a lot of those folks in America. So it was really important to me that the Steve Coogan character I play in the film works whether you know who I am or not. If you do know who I am there is an extra dynamic to it also.
