Q1: What appealed to you about this project?
SB: It's always a combination of all of those things. I hadn't done a romantic comedy before and I thought it could be fun. I was particularly drawn to the character because of the honesty and straightforwardness of the character. The social issues are always a lure for me. If the movie can be entertaining and you can also get something in there that's well intentioned, that's a good thing.
Q2: Do you have any firsthand experience with interracial romance?
SB: I'm married and I've been married since before they invented electricity. I went out with an Asian girl for a while in Australia, but there were no issues about it whatsoever. I think it's a bigger issue in America for some reason. It baffles me a little bit, but I think a lot of it is about pride. Isn't pride one of the 7 deadly sins? Pride and lack of self-esteem can create weird issues.
