Q: The movie took place in Japan, all the characters are Japanese, and it's obviously a Japanese movie, but the directing and screenwriting were done by Trần Anh Hùng. Were you consciously trying to express more gJapaneseh essence in this film than in others?
RK: I never thought of it that way but perhaps I did. However, I concentrated more on the background of that time period instead of that. This film took place in 1969. It was an era that people were living with hopes, but Naoko was very fragile. So I kept that in my mind all the time.

Q: The speaking way of dialogue is very flat; whose idea was that?
RK: The dialogue was taken right from Haruki Murakami's original work. We agreed that there weren't any reasons to make a change. The dialogue sounds flat, but the pictures were extremely vivid; I thought the contrast between them was great. That kind of uncomfortable feeling which the audience catches from this film is the directorfs choice, I think. The pace Naoko...
