Julien Temple – Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten
Q1: You knew his friends?
JT: I was a friend of his too so I knew a lot of them anyway, but we had a great researcher who found his group of friends from way back, and then other people heard we were making a film and they wanted to be in it, John Cusack, for example. We didn't have to go hustle people too much because Joe is the kind of guy that people wanted to be involved in a film about. There is an amazing amount of music in that film, which usually you can't afford to license it. Hendrix wanted $186,000, so he's not in there. But the others, the Elvis Estate, and Dylan, a lot of people gave their music because of Joe.
Q2: How did you work the schedule, like with Johnny Depp?
JT: You saw that we actually got Jack Sparrow for 5 minutes. Jack Sparrow has only done two movies, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Future is Unwritten, so I don't know if he's going to do anymore. Bono can say yes and he can say no. Bono ...
