INTERVIEWS/REVIEWS: Marjane Satrapi HollywoodNewsWire.net "Persepolis Press Conference" photo
Persepolis Press Conference

Marjane Satrapi – Persepolis

Q1: How weird is this to see on the screen?
MS: Well, actually, the first time I saw it was for the closing night of the New York Film Festival because the whole time that I was seeing it, I was seeing it with a technical point of view, 'this is wrong, this is wrong.' And then at the Cannes Festival it was like the day of the wedding. Everybody else is happy, but you. You are just stressed, so I didn't see the movie. I actually watched it, but I didn't see it. For the first time I saw it, the thing is, no matter how personal a story is, because of course it's not a documentary about my life, but from the second you make a script and then you make it into a movie, it becomes fiction, so I see it as a character, I see it from afar. I just think this is not only with the story, but even with myself. So I thought it was not such a bad movie. I wasn't ashamed of it, which is a good thing because I'm always extremely critical of what I do myself.
