Q1: From the roundtable question, you said this book is not non-fiction, this is a fiction book. It's kind of part fact or part idea or part facts actually?
JB: Yeah, I mean it's a work of fiction set in a real life place in a real life experience. But you know, I knew at the start, I was going to have to change some details of the camps in order to serve the story. But one of the hard decisions was which ones are morally right to change and which ones is it wrong? So for example, I moved the house, the house at Auschwitz, the commandants house, is within the camp itself, I moved to that side, in order to separate it from the fence, so that Bruno could walk towards it, and I felt that was justified. You know, one of the things I felt I had to stick to was the fact that people died at the camps, hence the ending. But it is a work of fiction and people, you know readers I think shouldn't come to it, picking it apart for things that c...
