Q1: He (Brendan) said when you were writing this book, he's in your mind?
CF: Yes, I do that. I steal from actors. Writers are magpies. So what I do is, another book I wrote, The Thief Lord, I based a character on Bob Hoskins, the British actor. The detective. I had seen Roger Rabbit I thought, oh my god, I'll just steal a little bit from that, gestures, the flesh and the blood, the voice, the smiles, and in your mind, suddenly the character, but he doesn't have a face yet, becomes visual, so when I started Inkheart, I thought who could that book binder be, he's a very normal person at the beginning, a young father, rather boyish, sometimes his girl has to take care of him, he will become a very ferocious robber after three books, so, who can do that?
