Nia Vardalos and John Corbett – I Hate Valentine's Day
Q1: When you approach romantic comedies, there's an expression I use, surrendering to the genre, say, okay, there's certain expectations, we meet the couple at the beginning and we know if it's a romantic comedy they better be together at the end otherwise, everybody's going to be disappointed. So do you have to play that against your sense of reality?
NV: Well, you know what, I feel like romantic comedy lately has been so picked on, that Matthew McConaghey, Jennifer Garner movie, was like attacked, attacked, like piranhas at a feeding frenzy and there are other movies too, I mean, I remember reading reviews of Tina Fey in Baby Mama that I went, are you kidding me? We don't read these reviews of like a racing car movie, we don't read like oh, hey, this is a racing car movie, it's going to follow the formula, you know, movies are movies and we escape, we're watching a screen, if you think any part of it is reality, we'...
