Recently, Hollywood has been flooded with 3D movies. The numbers of 3D films shown with high-tech equipment have doubled each year in the past three years. Why now, and where are 3D films heading? Let's dig a little deeper into the past, present, and future of 3D movies.

Mechanisms of 3D
We see objects in three dimensions because of the difference in the location of an object seen by the left and right eyes, also known as binocular disparity. Thus, if we create an image that is slightly shifted for the left and right eyes and view it through special glasses, the image is seen in three dimensions.
